Zan News: Local sources in Balkh Province have reported that a young girl in Mazar-e-Sharif, the provincial capital, hanged herself, ending her life.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Monday (February 10) in the "Dasht-e-Shor" area, part of the ninth security district of Mazar-e-Sharif.

Reports indicate that the girl was 18 years old and named Sona. She had been engaged to the son of a relative about a year ago. Sources added that she hanged herself from the ceiling of her home, but the motive behind the suicide remains unclear.

Taliban security officials in Balkh have not yet commented on the incident.

This comes as the rate of suicide among women and girls has increased in various provinces of the country following the Taliban's return to power. Forced marriages, domestic violence, severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban, and mental health issues are cited as the most significant factors contributing to suicide among Afghan women and girls.
