Zan News: On the eve of the second anniversary of Afghan girls being deprived of education at universities and the expulsion of women from their jobs in international institutions by the Taliban, Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Representative for Women and Human Rights, has called for comprehensive support.
In an open letter on Saturday (December 21), Amiri emphasized that if countries do not support Afghan girls, the rights of women and girls everywhere will be under threat.
She added that Afghan men both inside and outside the country, must stand alongside their sisters, daughters, and wives.
The U.S. Special Representative also stressed that the international community, in its dealings with the Taliban, must prioritize human rights in Afghanistan. She stated: "Member states, donors, academic institutions, and the private sector must align tangible support with the resilience and creativity of Afghan women and girls."
Amiri emphasized that the Taliban pose a transnational threat, and without support for girls in Afghanistan, the rights of women worldwide will be violated.
