Zan News: On the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day, the Balkh Women's Movement issued a statement condemning the Taliban's anti-women policies and calling on the international community to take immediate action to end "the darkest period in the history of Afghan women."
In its statement, published on Monday (3 March), the movement emphasized that Afghan women under Taliban rule have been deprived of even the most basic human rights, including access to education, employment, and economic participation.
Referring to the ban on women's work in both government offices and non-governmental organizations, the movement noted that these restrictions not only endanger the lives of millions of women but also jeopardize the livelihoods of their families, further exacerbating widespread poverty in society.
The statement added: "The Taliban's anti-women policies not only target the freedom and dignity of women but have also driven millions into poverty and deprivation."
The Balkh Women's Movement urged the international community, human rights organizations, and international institutions to not remain silent against this oppression and to take immediate and decisive measures to address this humanitarian crisis. The statement concluded: "On this day—a symbol of resistance, equality, and justice for women around the world—we raise the voice of Afghan women and once again condemn these cruel and inhuman policies."
