Zan News: In response to the third Doha meeting, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan's acting Representative to the United Nations, called the lack of representation of civil society, women, and Afghan girls at the meeting "disappointing."
Mr. Faiq, in his address to the UN Security Council, said it was "disappointing" that the agenda of the third Doha meeting does not include the political process and human rights as two important topics in their thematic discussions, and that civil society representatives and women will not be at the negotiating table.
He considered this as a move away from essential issues and international commitments, including UN Security Council resolutions. Faiq also emphasized that this represents another "backward step" and normalization without any noticeable changes in Afghanistan.
The acting Representative of Afghanistan to the UN said: "We reiterate that any dialogue on the future of the Afghan people without addressing the main issues and concerns, including national legitimacy, Islamic and fundamental rights of all citizens, including women, girls and minority groups, and security threats such as extremism, terrorism and drugs that have contributed to the current stalemate, will not yield tangible results."
Faiq emphasized the need to ensure that Afghan women are fully involved in political dialogue at all levels, including the Doha process. He said: "We must not ignore the legitimate demands of the Afghan people, especially Afghan women and girls, and normalize the gender apartheid regime in Afghanistan."
The acting Representative of Afghanistan to the UN also emphasized the fatigue of the Afghan people from war and their desire for peace and stability. He said: "This is only possible through a legitimate, accountable and inclusive governance system based on the rule of law, justice and the will of the people, and the protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of all citizens and Afghanistan's international commitments."
It is worth mentioning that the third meeting of the special representatives of countries on Afghanistan, hosted by the United Nations, is scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar on June 30 and July 1. According to reports, the central themes of this meeting will be economic issues and the fight against drugs.
Meanwhile, human rights organizations and women activists have emphasized the need to focus on women's rights at this meeting.
