Faiq: The Situation of Afghan Women Under Taliban Rule Has Worsened
February 11, 2025
Zan News
Zan News: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the acting Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, has strongly criticized the Taliban's policies, stating that the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan has "deteriorated" under the group's rule, depriving them of all their fundamental rights.
He made these remarks in a post on the social media platform X on Monday.
Faiq emphasized: "Nearly four years into the Taliban's rule, their policies have not only failed to establish governance based on merit, justice, and the rule of law but have also placed women in greater social and economic isolation than ever before."
He added that the Taliban, by exploiting "the name of Islam and Sharia," are pursuing dual and un-Islamic policies aimed solely at consolidating power and isolating Afghanistan.
These criticisms come as the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on women and girls over the past three years, including banning education for girls above the sixth grade, barring women from working in government and non-governmental institutions, and imposing strict limitations on movement, dress, and social participation. These policies have resulted in no country recognizing the Taliban government to date.
