International Organizations' Report: Taliban's Repressive Policies Have Severely Suppressed Women and Girls

February 9, 2025

Zan News

Zan News: The Global Protection Cluster (GPC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have jointly reported that over the past three years, the Taliban, through "strict and discriminatory policies," have severely suppressed and isolated women and girls, along with many others in Afghanistan.

According to the report, in 2024, the Taliban implemented restrictive policies that deprived the people of Afghanistan, particularly women and girls, of access to education, work, healthcare, and many other basic services. These actions have exacerbated humanitarian needs in the country.

The report expressed deep concern, emphasizing that the Taliban's systematic barriers have significantly worsened the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. Women, girls, boys, persons with disabilities, minorities, the elderly, youth, internally displaced persons, returnees from other countries, and many other at-risk groups face severe restrictions in accessing rights, freedoms, mobility, and public civic life.

The joint report by the Global Protection Cluster and the UNHCR also noted that Afghanistan in 2024 has been grappling with severe economic, political, and social instability. The return of migrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey has further aggravated the situation.

International organizations in the report have emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to at-risk and vulnerable groups and called for immediate action from the global community.
