Zan News: Several Afghan female athletes met with Malala Yousafzai, the girls' education rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, on the sidelines of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
According to a statement released by the Afghan athletes, the meeting involved discussions on the current situation in Afghanistan and the future of sports in the country.
In this meeting, Malala Yousafzai described the deprivation and revocation of Afghan women's and girls' freedoms as illegal and inhumane. She emphasized her support for Afghan female athletes and stated that she stands with them.
The meeting was attended by Samira Asghari, a member of the International Olympic Committee, Hafizullah Wali Rahimi and Yonus Popalzai, the president and secretary-general of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee, Khalida Popal, the former captain of the Afghanistan women's national football team, Kimia Yousofi, Zakia Khudadadi, and several other Afghan female athletes.
It is noteworthy that six Afghan athletes, including three women and three men, are representing Afghanistan in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Additionally, five Afghan athletes are participating in the International Olympic Committee's Refugee Team, bringing the total number of Afghan athletes competing in this year's Olympics to eleven.
The Taliban has announced that they do not recognize the women in the six-person team as Afghan athletes.
Meanwhile, the Taliban has banned women's sports in Afghanistan and dissolved all women's sports teams.
