Zan News: The Purple Saturdays Movement has condemned the removal of Sirajuddin Haqqani and two other members of the Haqqani Network from the "Reward for Justice" program list by the U.S. government.
The protesters described this action as "an endorsement of the Taliban's crimes against humanity" and "an insult to the victims of terrorism," warning of its consequences.
They emphasized that this decision, while the repression of women and the widespread violation of human rights in Afghanistan continue, reflects a double standard in the fight against terrorism and political bargaining at the expense of human rights.
The protesters called on the U.S. government to, instead of creating diplomatic opportunities for the Taliban, base its policy on accountability and the prosecution of the leaders of this group.
Furthermore, the Purple Saturdays Movement stressed the need for global solidarity in support of human rights and women's rights in Afghanistan, urging the European Union and the European Parliament to take a firm and responsible stance against the normalization of relations between some European countries—especially Norway—and the Taliban.
The movement warned that this trend will not only intensify the widespread human rights violations and the oppression of women in Afghanistan, but that the Taliban, by promoting extremist ideology, expanding terrorism, and inciting transnational jihad, pose a serious threat to regional and global security. The protesters emphasized that the international community should not normalize relations with the Taliban at the cost of jeopardizing global peace and security.
