Zan News: On Sunday, December 8, members of Afghanistan's Spontaneous Movement of Women Fighters held a protest to denounce the Taliban’s decision to ban women from studying medical sciences. The protesters condemned the recent decree, calling it a regressive and extremist action.
In a statement released by the movement, they declared:
"The terrorist group Taliban, by banning women from medical sciences, has once again revealed its detestable and extremist face. We, the members of the Spontaneous Movement of Women Fighters in Afghanistan, as part of the community, express our deepest and most intense hatred and disgust against the inhumane actions and decrees of the Taliban regime."
The statement further emphasized that "the Taliban, through violence and discrimination against women, ethnic-religious minorities, and other marginalized groups, are carrying out gender apartheid and insidious acts of genocide."
The movement called on the people of Afghanistan and the international community to unite with Afghan women in resisting the Taliban's discriminatory and "inhumane" policies. The protesters also warned that "the Taliban regime poses a grave threat not only to the people of Afghanistan but to humanity as a whole."
