Rina Amiri: Taliban Deepen People's Suffering and Destroy the Prospect of Peace and Stability
December 11, 2024

Zan News: Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghan Women and Human Rights, states that the Taliban, by intensifying their policies, including the gender-based persecution of women and girls, are deepening the suffering of the people of Afghanistan and destroying the prospect of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
She made these remarks in a message on social media (X) on Tuesday night (December 10) in observance of Human Rights Day.
Amiri wrote in the message: "On Human Rights Day, we must recognize the centrality of human rights in addressing the crisis in Afghanistan." She emphasized that millions of people in Afghanistan have suffered from human rights violations over more than four decades of war.
She also stated: "The escalation of the Taliban's gender-based harassment policies against women and girls, as well as violations against ethnic and religious groups, journalists, and human rights defenders, continues to deepen the pain and suffering of the Afghan people and destroys the prospect of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan."
This comes as Afghanistan faces a severe human rights crisis following the Taliban's return to power. Despite this, the Taliban claim that human rights are being upheld in the country, even though, over the past three years, they have deprived women and girls of their basic rights, including education and employment.
