Zan News: The Taliban's Supreme Court announced that the Criminal Division of the group's Primary Court in Khost province has flogged five people, including a woman, in public.
According to a statement from the court published on Sunday (December 1), these individuals were punished for charges of "illicit relations" and "sodomy."
The court added that each of these individuals was sentenced to 39 lashes and prison sentences ranging from one to four years.
The Taliban Supreme Court stated that the punishment was carried out in the presence of Taliban local officials and local residents in the court yard.
This comes as the Taliban have flogged over twenty people across the country in the past week on various charges. The group considers the public flogging sentence to be part of the "Islamic Sharia" orders.
Despite opposition from international organizations to stop torture and corporal punishments, the Taliban continue to carry out public floggings of accused individuals. The Taliban's Supreme Court has not provided any explanation regarding the trial process of these individuals or their access to justice.
Previously, international human rights organizations have expressed concerns about the access to justice for accused individuals under the Taliban's rule in Afghanistan.
