Zan News: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced the execution of a flogging sentence on two women and one man in the provinces of Ghazni and Herat.
According to the court’s announcement, on Wednesday (19 February), one woman and one man in the Deh-ik district of Ghazni were flogged in public on charges of “moral corruption.” The announcement stated that each of these individuals received 35 lashes and was also sentenced to two years of custodial imprisonment.
In another announcement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court stated that on Thursday (20 February), a woman in Herat was flogged 15 times on charges of “illicit relations” and was sentenced to six months of custodial imprisonment. According to the court, this sentence was issued by the Penal Department of the Herat City Court and executed after receiving the court’s final approval.
It should be noted that since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have repeatedly flogged accused individuals in public and have executed six people in the presence of hundreds of spectators. These actions have been met with widespread condemnation from international human rights organizations.
Human rights organizations consider corporal punishment and public executions to be violations of international law and human dignity, and they are calling for an immediate halt to these measures.
