Zan News: Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Coordinator at the United Nations, said in a Security Council meeting that the Taliban have not fulfilled their commitments to upholding human rights, especially women's rights, and that the international community no longer has hope for this group.
In his opening statement at the briefing, Griffiths said that the Taliban, after taking over Afghanistan again, had made commitments to the international community regarding the protection of human rights. However, these commitments have not been implemented, and the international community no longer has hope for this group.
Referring to his trip to Kabul after the Taliban takeover, the UN Under-Secretary-General said: "I went to Kabul on behalf of the Secretary-General to talk to the new rulers [Taliban]. I had worked in Afghanistan like this for a lifetime. We had hopes at that time, in fact we had written commitments on how we could move forward with the Taliban. Those hopes have been dashed."
Griffiths stressed that over the past two years, the Taliban have issued one decree after another against women and girls in Afghanistan.
He, whose mission ends later this month, noted that the international community has not reached an agreement with the Taliban on various issues.
It is worth noting that after taking over Afghanistan again, the Taliban have issued dozens of "discriminatory" decrees against women and girls in the country.
In addition to depriving women and girls of the right to education, this group has also taken away their opportunities for work.
In the latest case, the General Directorate of Administrative Affairs of the Taliban said in a letter that based on the decree of Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of this group, the salary of all female employees in Afghanistan will henceforth be set at 5,000 Afghanis.
According to this letter, signed by Noorulhaq Anwar, Acting Head of the General Directorate of Administrative Affairs, all female employees who were appointed during the previous government and are still continuing their duties will be given the same salary.
