Zan News: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan has announced that more than 500 children have lost their lives in 2024 due to landmine explosions and unexploded ordnance left over from the war in the country.

UNICEF released these statistics on Sunday (January 5) in a post on X. The organization also mentioned that last year, around three million Afghan children were educated and made aware of the dangers posed by mines and other unexploded ordnance.

According to reports, millions of square meters of land in Afghanistan are still contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance. The demining organization "HaloTrust" has also stated that more than 65 square kilometers of land in Afghanistan are contaminated with improvised explosive devices.

It is worth mentioning that decades of war and the presence of various groups, including the Taliban, have been the main reasons for the placement of these mines in Afghanistan.
