Zan News: Catherine Russell, the Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), has criticized the ongoing ban on girls' education in Afghanistan, stressing that there is no excuse for depriving girls of education.
In a message on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Russell stated that according to the Taliban's policies, Afghan girls have been deprived of education beyond grade six for the past three years.
The UNICEF Executive Director highlighted that currently, 1.5 million girls in Afghanistan are denied the right to continue their education and achieve their full rights.
She added, "There is no excuse for depriving girls of their rights and the benefits of an educated society."
These remarks come as the Taliban, since their return to power in Afghanistan, have banned girls above grade six from attending school and later prohibited female students from attending universities and private educational institutions.
The United Nations and the international community have repeatedly called for the lifting of the ban on women's right to education and work in Afghanistan over the past three years. However, the Taliban have so far ignored these requests, leaving millions of female students without access to education.
