Zan News - Faryab: A 23-year-old woman committed suicide in Khwaja Sabzposh district of Faryab province.

According to local sources, the woman, identified as Elina, hanged herself with a scarf in her room on Monday evening (May 27th) in Tape Qeshlaq village, Khawaja Sabz Posh district, ending her life.

Local sources attribute the suicide to domestic violence. It is reported that Elina's husband was an addict and used to beat her. The Taliban have arrested Elina's husband following the incident.

Taliban officials in Faryab have not yet made any official statement on the matter.

Domestic violence, mental illness, and lack of access to treatment are among the factors that are increasingly driving women and girls in Afghanistan to suicide.
