The Human Rights Activists Union, responding to the Taliban’s continued arrests of women in Herat, says no society can achieve stability, justice or legitimacy by imprisoning women, silencing girls and imposing fear on families.

The UNAMA says in a new report that the Taliban arrested at least 30 women and girls during a campaign to enforce their prescribed hijab in Herat city and transferred them to Herat Provincial Prison.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says in a new report that Taliban morality inspectors in several provinces have barred women without a male guardian, or mahram, from shopping, accessing healthcare and moving freely.

A number of citizens in different provinces of Afghanistan say the Taliban are using mosques, domestic media, the education system and street surveillance to shape society according to their own interpretations and laws.
