UN Women in Afghanistan has stressed that female humanitarian workers must be able to continue their work in a safe environment and without restrictions.
The organisation wrote in a post on X on Wednesday (2 September) that in Afghanistan, female aid workers are often the only way to reach women and girls who need assistance.
According to UN Women, the presence of female staff enables Afghan women and girls to access essential information, support and the services they need.
The organisation wrote: “Afghan women aid workers are essential to reaching women and girls and delivering life-saving support.”
UN Women stressed that female humanitarian workers must be able to work safely and without restrictions.
The statement comes as women in Afghanistan face widespread restrictions on work, education, freedom of movement and social participation, restrictions that have also made it more difficult for women and girls to access humanitarian services.
