The Taliban’s Commission for Refugee Affairs has stated that more than 20,000 Afghan citizens were forcibly returned from Iran in just one day.

According to the commission’s report, on Wednesday (July 16), a total of 20,044 individuals entered Afghanistan through the Islam Qala and Pul-e Abrisham border crossings. Of these, 15,207 crossed through Islam Qala and 4,836 returned via the Pul-e Abrisham border.

This comes as the mass deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran continues. In recent months, amid mounting economic pressure and legal restrictions, Iranian authorities have expelled thousands of Afghan migrants without providing proper conditions for return.

Human rights organizations have reported that many of these deportations are carried out forcibly and without due legal process. In addition to Iran, Pakistan has also intensified the return of Afghan migrants in recent months.

Relief and human rights organizations have repeatedly called on the international community to provide urgent and sustained support for deported migrants, but no effective action has yet been taken.
