The Taliban Supreme Court has announced that a woman has been flogged in Daikundi province on charges of “extramarital relations.”
According to the court's statement, published on Tuesday, July 29, the woman was sentenced by the criminal division of the Daikundi city primary court to one year in prison and 39 lashes. The sentence was carried out after being confirmed by the Taliban Supreme Court.
It is worth noting that despite widespread international condemnation, desert courts and corporal punishments continue under Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
Since returning to power in 2021, the group has repeatedly punished women and men in public for various charges, including “illicit relations” and “theft.”
