Amnesty International has described the Taliban’s “Police Law” as another broad assault on human rights in Afghanistan, saying the law has serious implications for fair trial rights, freedom of expression, privacy, children’s rights and police powers.

The Afghanistan Human Rights and Democracy Organization (AHRDO) says in a new report that the Taliban use public flogging as a tool to impose their preferred social order and control women’s lives.

Local sources in Herat say Taliban vice and virtue forces have prevented women from entering Zanda Banan Market. Women who spoke to Zan News say they were not allowed to enter even to buy clothes and essential items for their families and were subjected to humiliating treatment by the Taliban.

The Taliban have banned all demonstrations across Afghanistan under their newly published “Police Law”, formally incorporating restrictions on freedom of assembly and civil protest into the group’s legal framework.
