Faiq Stresses Continued Global Aid and Support for Afghan Women’s Rights

Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Chargé d’Affaires of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has stressed the need for continued international assistance to the people of Afghanistan, support for the rights of women and girls, and the meaningful participation of Afghans in decisions about the country’s future.
In a message posted on X on Saturday (24 October), marking the 81st anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, Faiq said Afghanistan has a long-standing relationship with the organisation that extends beyond the years of war and crisis.
Referring to the approaching 80th anniversary of Afghanistan’s membership in the United Nations, he said Afghanistan has contributed to the organisation’s work, while the UN has stood alongside the Afghan people during periods of development, displacement and war.
Faiq called for strengthening this cooperation, continuing international assistance, defending the rights of women and girls, and ensuring meaningful participation by Afghans in determining the country’s future.
He also stressed the importance of building a peaceful, stable and inclusive Afghanistan that upholds its international commitments and maintains peaceful relations with neighbouring countries.
His remarks come as Afghan women and girls have faced sweeping restrictions on education, higher education, employment and participation in public life since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021.
