The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO), on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power, has announced that 539 cases of violence against Afghan journalists have been recorded during this period.
The organization reported on Wednesday, August 13, that the recorded cases include physical attacks, beatings, arrests, and threats, and that currently 10 journalists are being held in Taliban prisons.
According to AMSO statistics, among the victims of violence, 487 are male journalists and 52 are female journalists who have experienced Taliban violence.
AMSO has warned that media freedom and the work of journalists in Afghanistan are facing unprecedented threats. The report states that dozens of media outlets have stopped operating, access to information has been severely restricted, and media support organizations have come under pressure.
