Taliban Say They Addressed Family Complaints of 33 Women in Seven Provinces

The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice says its vice and virtue officers have addressed family complaints involving 33 women across seven provinces of Afghanistan over the past two days.
In a statement issued on Sunday (25 October), the ministry said the complaints were registered in Kunar, Takhar, Farah, Paktia, Balkh, Sar-e Pol and Zabul provinces.
According to the ministry, Taliban vice and virtue officers heard statements from the parties involved after the complaints were registered at provincial directorates and provided guidance on the rights and responsibilities of husbands and wives under Islamic Sharia law.
The ministry claimed that these measures prevented further domestic violence and mistreatment against 33 women and helped create conditions for resolving disputes through dialogue, counselling and reconciliation.
However, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice did not provide further details about the nature of the complaints, how each case was handled or the current situation of the women involved.
It also remains unclear whether any protective measures or specific mechanisms have been put in place to safeguard these women and prevent further domestic violence.
